Leaky Bucket

So, one of my current endeavors (with friends!) is starting a group called Leaky Bucket, where we make things. Our initial idea for it was just so that we could have a little branding if we ever make something together and don’t want to just slap our first and last names on it.

The first thing we needed to really kick this off was a name, and we chose Leaky Bucket! We called it that, first of all, because we wanted it to sound casual, but catchy, and second of all because we wanted it to be somewhat nerdy and there’s an algorithm called the Leaky Bucket algorithm.

The next thing we needed was a social media presence (even if we weren’t active yet). Turns out the name “Leaky Bucket” is a common one for very inactive accounts on the internet. We ended up nabbing @leakybucket on Twitter and Instagram, and @LeakyBucketDesign on Etsy, Facebook, and Twitch. We’re not super active yet, but I’ve been occasionally sticking lasercutting and 3D printing projects on Instagram if you want to check it out and/or give us a follow.

And, of course, we needed a logo next! Cami and Jade (the other Leaky Bucket-ers) and I hung out and drew a few crappy ideas (one of them that ended up being the one I used to make the final logo is here).

After talking it out, I opened up Affinity Designer (I tried using Illustrator but I’m not as good at navigating that one yet) and got to work.

Tracing Leaky Bucket

I watched a bunch of Skillshare classes (my favorite being this one) to keep refining the design until we had the image before you! I’ll definitely continue to toy with it, but I’m happy with how it turned out so far.
